Editing DONE!

Yesterday Chelsea and myself finally after a very long day of editing FINALLY got it done! We had a few problems and felt extremely annoying to the poor tech guy in stores! But he kept saying it wasn't our fault! hahaha. But finally its done, Mike came in and gave us some extra sounds to put on, like TV and some traffic noise for the bad date. We have Marvin Gaye playing for the good date which Chelsea and myself felt fit in with it quite well! We also have the Benny Hill Theme over the time lapse which is pretty funny i think. We also added some credits to the film and a title, we couldn't think of the decent name so Chelsea and me came up with "Count on Me" not the best name, but it works! Anyway just wanted to say well done to everyone! Its been hard work but its done! Woo See you all tomorrow!

Good work everyone!

I would just like to say thanks to everyone involved with this project, there were some difficult times but we got through them with some good teamwork and enthusiasm which is nice to see and the reason i am on this course! I think we will all learn a lot from this and will have gained valuable experience for the future, just remember that even if we have made a few mistakes along the way, the only way to learn is by making mistakes!

Finished :)

Hey guys, editings finished. Me and verity had a looooooooooong stressful day in the edit suite yesterday with the computer being dodgy but its all done. Shame you haven't been able to see it Kara but youll see it tomorrow :) Thankyou Mike for the extra sounds. We added the music in ourselves using Marvin Gaye for background music for the date :) Thanks for coming in to help Theo and Mike we've really appreciated having your opinion on what we had done etc... And it is all of our work so didn't want to make all the decisions. Hope your pleased with it. i have the dvd so i will obviously bring that in tomorrow. I have also done the synopsis and the filming schedule. Veritys done the shot list and already has the treatment and i think Mike said he would do the technical details so think we have the group folder pretty much sorted. :)

Reminds me of the characters Phil and Trev. How they act and talk to eachother. Geeky, trying to be cool.
Date scene from Ashes to Ashes:

I like where the camera is located.. A standard mid-shot, so the audience can see that the man and woman are in a restaurant on a date. They are facing eachother, candle in the middle.. nice touch. Seems formal/posh

Dinner, Edward and Bella, Twilight

I think the lighting in this scene is beaut. Good clip that shows how a good date is supposed to go. Just had to include this sexy film ;)
HEY GUYS! Filming was awesome, bit stressful at times (had to shout a few times) aha. We did half on the Friday and the other half on Saturday. Me on camera, Theo acting, Chelsea/Mike sound, Verity lights. We all worked well as a team, so good job kids! Theo well done for getting the actors, i think those 2 really make the film. & also a big well done for being in the film yourself.. not a trained actor, funny times getting your lines right. We should do a whole dvd on the out-takes.. bloody hilarious :D
Even though it seemed to take agesssss, we did really well and i think we were all motivated as a team to get it all filmed to a high standard. I think the script was brilliant, & very comical, so it was a laugh filming it :)
We all took on the directing role, which probs worked out better. There were no disagreements and everybody's imput was taken into consideration. The location (Verity's flat) was also good and worked to our benefit, making it easier too.. rather than filming in a restaurant.
So all round, good times. Can't wait to see the finished piece.. I'm sure Chelsea and Verity's editing is awesome. So love loves peace out x

films

Shaun of the dead-
The characters Phil and Trev are very similar to the two main characters in the film Shaun of the Dead. There is a main character who quite dependant and capable on their own. They could have a potential love life and their job. However they have a friend who holds them back. For example ruins relationships, relying on the other one, and just always being there. This is exactly like Phil and Trev. Phil is supposed to be cooler than Trev. For example dresses nicer, makes an effort with his appearance, doesn't like as much typically geeky stuff as Trev. However ruins chances he has to have a girlfriend etc. This is shown in our film through Phil's chance to get a girlfriend and take her on a date and Trev unintentionally sabotaging it by acting as a waiter.

Other than this film we have looked at other typical romantic comedies and how they portray the typical date scene. These films included White Chicks, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Knocked Up, Bridget Jones, Sex and the City (the series though not the film) , About a Boy, There's Something about Mary, How to lose a guy in ten days.

Editing :)

Almost at the end of editing the piece. just need to add the final touches.
Editing has been pretty hard as the footage was pretty inconsistent. There are a number of shots with things in the background which couldn't be used. For example there is a scene in the kitchen where you can see the lights in the background in almost every shot. This is the reason that this scene is mostly close ups of Phil and Trev. Also there wasn't enough takes of each scene to make editing an easier job. For example whilst editing I wanted to have the final shot of a close up of Phil however there was only one take of this and he doesn't read his line very well. Therefore i couldn't use the shot. It would have been helpful if while filming we could have thought about the editors and the need for more than one take as there is a few circumstances where this problem has come up. Another shot i think could be improved is the close up of Trev in the first section of the film. It isn't really a close up compared to the close up we have of Phil and there is too much empty space around his head.

Looking at the footage and now it is edited together a bit more i feel that the good date scene works best. I think the script works really well and it fits in really well with the scene before and after as such a contrast. For example the scene in the bathroom of him saying how he likes tennis in a jokey way to cut the the dream date of him saying how he likes to keep fit. I also quite like the shadows on the wall behind them and there is a clear difference in the lighting between the good date and the bad date to show the different atmosphere and situation.

I think the script written by Theo and the actors help make this piece. I dont think that it would have worked aswell if we hadn't have had Matt and Tot help us out.

Photos from the shoot!

These are the photos from the dream date secne.

Verity, Chelsea and Theo in the edit room!

So today Chelsea and myself have been in the editing room all day! Been here since 9:30am working on the final piece for the drama 10min film. Theo joined us later which was great! He helped and gave a good input into what he thought looked good, finally we are getting somewhere! Woo!! We all decided we need some extra sounds on our piece, music from the TV when Phil and Trev are talking at the start, Ambience sounds throughout the piece, on both the dates have some type of music, for the dream date some soft maybe classical music and the bad date maybe some cheesy pop music. Any other ideas for sounds would be good if you could all think of some please everyone!!!! Its been a long day and more to come tomorrow! Well done for being here Chelsea and Theo, see you both tomorrow!

Chelsea and Verity from the edit room

Currently editing the piece. Lots of footage some of it looks quite good. However dont think that the framing in some shots is particularly good. The good date looks good how we set up the lights with the shadows on the wall and it has the romantic effect we were trying to achieve. Will be in here all day today and will be hopefully be joined by you guys later. Would be good to have everyone here at some point so we can all have an input on the final cut. Also we would like your suggestions. We think that having people who can actually act in our film worked well as it meant we could get on with it aswell as the footage looking good.
Love v and c :)

progress in filming

well done guys for filming today. we managed to get the first half of the script filmed well. Thankyou and well done to Theo for being in the film seeing as we couldnt get the actor we had planned on. Ready for finishing the rest of filming with all the props and back up actress just in case. I think filming went really well and we have some really good shots that we can cut together in editing. We did well in getting a variety of different shots again to help with the editing and various cut aways. hopefully the shot list me and Verity did guided us a little bit so as to not waste time but obviously we all had our own say in shots each of us liked :)
see you tomorrow. :)

Rupert Pupkin

This is where i got the idea for cutting between Phil rehearsing in the bathroom/bedroom to his imaginary date & then to getting ready for his real date. The film is called The king of comedy (scorsese & de nero) and is about a delusional man who starts to believe that his fantasies are real, anyway its very good and i recommend it very funny ! Heres a clip anyway:

progress so far

So things have come along nicely! Theo has done a good first draft of the script, we have three proper actors so we just need to storyboard and then actually film! Which will be done on friday, (fingers crossed!) I feel we could make this a pretty funny film if we actually get it spot on with the script. Nice script though Theo, you have done well! :) Next group meeting wednesday and hopefully by then Chelsea and myself should have started or done the storyboards! See you then guys.

Chelsea :)

hellooooo :)
just to develop the second idea a bit more. we were thinking about following two different scenarios as a first/blind date. for example how the boy/girl want the date to go and then how it actually goes, whether this be better or worse. This would make the idea a little bit more interesting. I also quite like the taxi idea as we will be able to involve a variety of characters. I personally think these two ideas are the strongest that we have. After the session today i think when we meet monday we should make sure we have a firm idea and have a clear story and narrative. :)

Initial Ideas

Hello everyone, just to outline the main ideas we have come up with so far, I have listed them on this blog, anything else you might want to add is welcome and feel free to add links pictures etc for research!

'Making An Entrance'

  • New teacher or trainee teacher (could be science/drama/art?) Their 'want' is to be a good teacher and also to make it fun for the kids. Some examples would be..."Matilda" "Teachers" "School Of Rock" "Summer Heights High"-Mr Gee
  • Blind Date / First Date - Boy/girl meet for the first time through a newspaper 'seeking love' column, the results are unexpected. A 3rd character could be a waiter who messes things up for the two of them even more, for example - Maunel from 'Fawlty Towers'
  • New kid in town enters a new group, this is quite a common place for films such as Football Factory, Green Street & The Firm. The protagonist is often disliked by the new group they enter but there is often one person who will accept and take a liking to them, and ultimately achieve their 'want' which is to fit in.
  • The final idea we have for now is the 'Taxi' idea, which involves the taxi driver as the main protagonist and he/she has top put up with various people who might tell them about parts of their life or couples having an argument or showing affection for each other. The want for this character could be that if he sees people who seem better off than him such as a couple who are in love, he/she may be lonely and want a companion. The obvious example for this idea would be Scorsese's Taxi Driver.
